The Tommie men's swimming and diving team got 14 firsts and cruised to an impressive 205-91 victory over Carleton in a Friday night dual meet in Northfield.
Coach Tom Hodgson's team lost 71-69 to the Knights at this point early last season but later outscored Carleton to take third at the MIAC Championships.
Five of the Tommie wins came from freshmen -- diver Ryan Panure of Hopkins High swept the one- and three-meter boards (250.90, 236.90 points). Sam Rauchwalter of Eastview won the 500 free in 5:07.36. Michael Hoelterhoff of Lake Forest, Ill., won the 50 free in 22.18. Ethan Nimens of Crookston won the 200 IM in 2:04.57.
Three UST vets each won two individual events. Senior All-American Peter Mullee swept the 100 and 200 back (54.18, 1:57.88). Senior Grant Frost won the 100 and 200 breaststroke (1:02.51, 2:18.57). Sophomore Erik Huls won the 100 and 200 fly (53.34, 2:06.05).
Andrew Spratt won the 1000 free in 10:38.44. UST also swept the 400 medley relay (3:43.48) and the 400 free relay (3:18.67).
St. Thomas men compete Saturday in the Hamline Invite.
