Men's Swimmers shine in strong field at U of M meet

Senior All-American Peter Mullee had a hand in four top-three finishes on Saturday to lead the Tommie men's swimming and diving team at the Minnesota Challenge. The two-day meet concluded Saturday at the U of M Aquatic Center on the Gophers' campus.

Mullee won the 100 Back in 51.00 and beat 50 other competitors including five Gopher swimmers. He also led off the winning Men's 400 Medley Relay in 3:30.46 with Grant Frost, Erik Huls and Sam Rauchwarter.

UST's 200 Medley Relay placed third behing two Gopher teams in 1:36.23 with Mullee, Frost, Huls, Michael Hoelterhoff.

The Tommie 400 Free Relay took second in 3:10.64 behind only the Minnesota Gophers and beat seven other schools' top unit with Hoelterhoff, Huls, Rauchwarter and Mullee.

Mullee also placed fifth out of 44 entrants in the 200 Back in 1:54.10. Ethan Nimens placed 11th in 1:59.73.

In the 200 Fly, Ben Ruhme placed sixth out of 34 entrants in 2:00.63. In the 100 Fly, Huls was seventh out of 61 entrants in 51.94.

In the 200 Free, Rauchwarter was 12th in 1:45.72.

In the 200 Breast, Frost was 16th in 2:15.54. In the 100 Breast, Frost was 18th in 1:01.75.

In the 100 free in a field of 106, Hoelterhoff was 15th in 48.21 and Rauchwarter was 17th in 48.41.

In the 1650 Free David Bailly was 15th in 17:58.08 and Ian Watters was 21st in 18:30.74.  

In the 200 IM, Matt Moore was 20th in 4:36.57.

In one-meter diving, Ryan Panure was seventh with 2:36.30 points and Jeff Isaacson was 13th in 194.75 points. In three-meter, Panure was 10th with 228.40 points and Isaacson was 15th with 163.00 points.      


Friday's results

The Tommies won the 400 medley relay in a season-best time on 3:30.36 with Mullee, Frost, Huls and Rauchwarter.

Mullee was fourth in the men’s 50 Free in 21.03, a time that's ranked first in the MIAC. Gopher swimmers took the other 10 spots in the top 11.

UST's 200 Free Relay unit of Hoelterhoff, Rauchwarter, Huls and Mullee placed fourth in 1:25.46 and now has the fastest time in the MIAC.

In the 200 IM, Nimens was ninth in 1:59.53.

In the 500 Free, Rachwarter was 14th in 4:53.23.
