St. Thomas' Nick Johnson (JR-Blaine) on Monday was named MIAC Swimming & Diving Athlete of the Week.
Johnson had two solid performances at the Minnesota Challenge diving meet Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. Johnson finished third on the one-meter board with a 260.30 score and ninth on the three-meter board with a 260.00 tally against a competitive field of Division I, II and III competitors.
His 3-meter score was just five points behind the fifth diver from the host Gophers, and his scores neared the NCAA qualifying standards.
Johnson holds the top score on both boards in the MIAC this season: 291.15 on one meter, and 328.40 on three meter.
The Tommies will look for Johnson and his fellow divers to score well at the U of M again this week at the 2013 MIAC Swimming and Diving Championships. The conference meet will feature six sessions -- two each on Thursday, Friday and Saturday -- with preliminary heats in the morning and championship heats at each evening session.
