Senior All-American Peter Mullee’s three individual victories led the St. Thomas men’s swimming and diving team at Saturday’s three-team St. Olaf Invitational.
Freshmen Sam Rauchwarter and Michael Hoelterhoff each had a hand in four top-three finishes in the competitions, which were scored as double dual meets. Division II St. Cloud State topped UST 169-131, while defending MIAC champion St. Olaf outscored the Toms 154.5-143.5.
Mullee (50.81) and Hoelterhoff (54.83) went 1-2 in the 100 back. Mullee also won the 50 free in 21.57 and the 200 back in 1:54.31. Rauchwarter won the 500 free in 4:53.93.
The Toms had runner-up placings in the 200 medley relay in 1:38.08 with Mullee, Grant Frost, Ben Ruhme and Hoelterhoff; in the 200 free with Rauchwarter in 1:44.81; in the 200 fly with Ruhme in 2:01.76; Hoelterhoff in the 100 free (48.00); Frost in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.54); and Ethan Nimens in the 200 IM in 2:02.88.
Thirds were scored by the 200 free team of Hoelterhoff, Lucas Brandt, Steve Stark and Rauchwarter in 1:28.16; Ryan Panure in one-meter diving with 168.10 points; Rauchwarter in the 50 free in 22.33; and Ruhme in the 100 fly in 54.26. Fourths were scored by Frost in the 100 breast in 1:01.32; Panure in three-meter diving with 246.20 points; Andy Akason in the 200back in 2:03.69; and Ruhme in the 200 IM in 2:05.63.
St. Olaf won seven of 16 events (three individually by Chris Bateman), and St. Cloud State won five.
