All-American Peter Mullee had a hand in four firsts and the St. Thomas men's swimming and diving team won nine events, broke the school record in the 800 Free Relay, and finished just four points out of second place in Saturday's St. John's Winter Invite.
Division II St. Cloud State took first with 829 points followed by Gustavus (661), St. Thomas (657) and St. John's (364).
At last February's MIAC Championships, the Gusties took second place with 738 points while UST was a distant third with 487 points.
Coach Tom Hodgson said 11 Tommie swimmers or divers had lifetime bests Saturday on the men's and women's side.
UST won the 800 free relay in a school-record time of 7:07.35 with Michael Hoelterhoff, Ethan Nimens, Peter Mullee and Sam Rauchwarter. UST also won the 200 medley relay in 1:36.14 with Mullee, Grant Frost, Erik Huls and Hoelterhoff.
Mullee also won the 50 free (21.36) and 100 free (46.44).
Ryan Panure was first in one-meter diving in 248.90 and second in three-meter diving in 236.40.
Other Individual winners were Rauchwalter in the 200 free (1:44.90); Ben Ruhme in the 200 fly (2:01.31); Grant Frost in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.87); and Huls in the 100 fly (53.60).
Seconds were scored by Ian Watters in the 1000 free (10:45.05); Nimens in the 100 back (56.08) and 200 back (2:00.76); Huls in the 50 free (22.04); and Rachwarter in the 500 free (4:54.85).
