Men's Swim-Dive edges St. Olaf for first

St. Thomas won only four of 16 events but used its depth to outscore St. Olaf and two other teams in Saturday’s Meet of the Saints at UST’s Anderson Pool.

Fifteen different athletes had at least one top-four individual placing for the Tommies, who recorded 863 points to top the Oles (765), St. John’s (637.5) and St. Mary’s (200).

UST’s Nick Johnson won one-meter (254.00) and three-meter (285.80) diving. Ben Henrickson (21.43) and Max Hubbard (22.05) placed 1-2 in the 50 free. Michael Lanz won the 100 fly (51.34) and took second in the 200 fly (1:55.44).

St. Thomas also took second to St. Olaf in the 400 medley relay (3:35.05) with Justin Mullee, Brandon Hoshaw, Lanz and Henrickson and the 400 free relay (3:10.65) with Henrickson, Griffin Voss, Lanz and Sam Rauchwarter.       

Chris Tri was second in the 500 free (4:51.23) by just .03 of a second. Mullee took second in the 100 back (53.64) and 200 back (1:56.68). Henrickson took second in the 100 free (48.14).

Other top-four individual finishes were posted by Jacob McEwing, third in one-meter diving (173.35) and fourth on three-meter (150.80); Voss, third in the 500 free (4:58.40) and fourth in the 200 fly (2:04.08); Ben Ruhme, third in the 200 fly (2:04.00) and fourth in the 200 back (2:02.72); Rauchwarter, third in the 200 free (1:48.61); Evan Eklund, third in the 100 fly (54.00); Tri, third  in the 1,650 free (17:19.93); Ethan Nimens, fourth in the 100 back (54.98) and fourth in the 200 IM (2:04.03); Rauchwarter, fourth in the 100 free (48.49); Brian Huls, fourth in the 50 free (22.58); Hoshaw, fourth in the 200 breast (2:17.70); Hubbard, fourth in the 100 fly (54.63); Cole Fuerste, fourth in the 200 free (1:48.68); and Ryan Smith, fourth in the 1,650 free (18:07.98).
