Backstroker Dave Linn breaks record, gets MIAC honor
November 5, 2001
St. Thomas swimmer Dave Linn (FR-Milwaukee, Wis./ Marquette HS) was named MIAC Men's Swimmer of the Week Nov. 5. In Saturday's dual meet at Gustavus, Linn showed why he'll be a force to be reckoned with in the backstroke as he started his collegiate career with a 1:57 in the 200 backstroke, breaking a nine-year old school record by three seconds. David Reeder held the record with a 2:00.97 time in 1992.
Linn also swam a 1:47 in the 200 free over the weekend as he won both events.
In his first college meet, Linn clocked 54.73 for his leg of the 100 backstroke -- just .36 of a second off a school record -- in helping the Tommies take third place in the 400 medley relay at the Oct. 27 St. Thomas Relays.
