Harrod, Linn take fourths at MIAC Swimming

February 20, 2003
Tommie sophomore swimmers Krysy Harrod and Dave Linn each placed fourth in the 200 individual medley Thursday night to lead the St. Thomas showing in the first day of the three-day MIAC Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The Tommie men have 88 points and are just three behind fifth-place Macalester (91). The UST women have 79 points, just 12 behind fourth-place Macalester.

In Thursday night's finals, Harrod took fourth in the 200 IM (2:14.69). Her prelim time of 2:14.68 broke an 11-year-old school record of 2:16.69 held by Martha Dwyer. On the men's side, Linn was fourth in the same event (1:56:16) and met the "B" qualifying standard for nationals.

Both Dave and Krysy will swim the 100 backstroke Friday.

Harrod also just missed by .14 of a second breaking the record of 60.38 in the 100 back, leading off the 400 medley relay. That relay just missed our school record as well.

The Tommie women took fourth in two relays. In the 200 free, Kate Boran, Bridget McKeown, Courtney Zurek and Heather McFarlane clocked 1:43.52. In the 400 medley, Harrod, Missy Jackson, Boran and McFarlane clocked 4:08.33, just one second off another school record..

The UST men took fourth in the 400 medley relay with Linn, Brian Privette, Jesse Winden and John Kuykendall in 3:36.59. Linn made the nationals "B" qualifying standard with his 100 back leadoff leg.

UST also placed fifth in the 200 free relay with Nick Erickson, Privette, Eric Hanson and Nick Schleder in 1:31.14.

Five other Tommies qualified for the consolation finals and scored by placing ninth through 16th in the finals. In the women's 50 freestyle, Boran placed 13th (25.34). In the men's 50 free, Kuykendall (22.36) and Winden (22.46) placed 13th and 15th. In the 200 IM, Privette finished 10th (2:01.71) and Schleder placed 15th (2:04.82).
