Men's Swimming tops Macalester

John Kuykendall and Jon Soldner each had a hand in four firsts as St. Thomas outscored Macalester 399-277 in Saturday's two-team St. Catherine Invitational.

The Toms competed without All-American Dave Linn, who returns this week from a January study-abroad class.

Kuykendall won the 50 free (23.51), the 100 free (54.33) and the 200 free (1:56.87) and anchored the first-place 200 medley relay (1:51.67 with Soldner, Dave Turnbloom and Alex Bos.

Soldner won the 100 back (63.24) and 200 back (2:29.24) and also anchored the winning 200 free relay (2:36.88) with Bos, Matt Des Marais and Turnbloom.

Turnbloom won the 100 breaststroke (1:10.83) and was second in the 50 free (23.70). Des Marais won the 1,650 free (19:39.97) and was second in the 500 free (5:36.02).

The Tommies host a pair of home meets this week at O'Shaughnessy Pool -- Tuesday vs. St. Olaf (6 p.m.), then host an alumni meet Saturday (1 p.m.).
