Dave Linn, Tut Fuller get Academic All-District

St. Thomas student-athletes Dave Linn and Tut Fuller were named to the Co-SIDA College Division At-Large Men's All-Academic District V first team.

Two other MIAC athetes made the first team -- Gustavus seniors Luke Benoit (3.595 Finance) of Fariabult and Neil Johnson (3.55 Finance) of River Falls, Wis., from the Gusties NCAA champion men's golf team.

All 10 first teamers move on to the national ballot for Academic All-American consideration.

Two other MIAC student-athletes made second team -- Augsburg junior wrestlers Joe Cullen (3.526, Math) of Coon Rapids and Mark Matzek (3.402, Math) of Ellsworth, Wis.

Linn (JR-Wilwaukee, Wis.), a 2003 Academic All-American, had a 4.00 gpa in Biology. Fuller (JR-Dubuque, Iowa) has a 3.985 gpa in Biology.

On the CoSIDA women's at-large Academic All-District V team, UST senior Tomery Stolz (SR-St. Louis Park) made second team.

Fuller helped the Tommies post a 15-6 dual record. He was 13-7 at No. 2 singles and 13-6 at No. 1 doubles. he has started all three years at Nos. 2-4 singles for the Tommies. A team captain, Fuller has been involved with the Red Cross Blood Drive, a Women's Shelter Fundraiser and the campus Student-Athlete Committee. he was named Physics Student of the Year in 2002-03 and Chemistry Student of the Year in 2001-02. In tennis he also was his team's Most Determined Award in 2002.

Linn missed one month of training in January while on study abroad. He still placed fifth in conference in the 200 backstroke and sixth in the 100 back stroke. He also swam on five fifth-place relay teams at
conference meet and just missed qualifying for third straight NCAA trip. At the 2003 national meet he was
honorable mention All-American in the 200 back (16th place). On his career he's been a four-time conference champ in the 100 and 200-backstroke, and also was 2002 honorable mention All-American in the 200 back (14th place). He's a member of the UST Biology Club and has been a part of the swimming team's extraordinary volunteer efforts including Toys for Tots, Christmas ornament sale, foodshelf drive and the annual American Cancer Society swim-a-thon.
