Men's Swimming first of four at CSC Invite

Dave Linn and Kevin Mullee each had a hand in four victories as the St. Thomas men's swimming & diving team beat three other squads for first place at Saturday's St. Catherine Invitational.

St. Thomas (564) edged Lawrence (Wis.) (540.50) for the championship followed by Macalester (498.50) and UW-River Falls (392).

The Tommies won two of three relays and five individual events. The 200 free relay of Kevin Mullee, Tim Mullee, T.J. Hardy and Linn won in 1:29.70. The 200 Medley Relay of Linn, Turnbloom, Kevin Mullee and Tim Mullee took first in 1:42.68. The 400 free relay of Tim Mullee, Dave Turnbloom, Matt Des Marais and Tyler Ormson placed second in 3:34.79.

Linn swept the 100 back (56.30) and 200 back (2:05.76) and placed third in the 50 free (22.65). Hardy won the 50 free (22.30), was second in the 100 back (56.35) and third in the 200 back (2:08.88). Kevin Mullee won the 200 fly (2:14.67) and 100 fly (54.47) and was second in the 50 free (22.51). Tim Mullee was fourth in the 200 IM (2:10.79), fourth in the 100 back (57.47) and second in the 200 back (2:08.42).

In other top-seven finishes for the Tommies, Turnbloom was third in the 100 breaststroke (69.41) and 200 breaststroke (2:40.41) and fifth in the 200 IM (2:13.40); Des Marais was fifth in the 500 free (5:26.19), fourth in the 200 free (2:02.37) and fourth in the 1,650 free (19:25.07); Ormson was fourth in the 100 free (56.02) and sixth in the 200 free (2:04.59); Hank Kemp was third in the 400 IM (5:30.76), sixth in the 500 free (5:48.69) and seventh in the 1,650 free (21:16.69); Paul Stahler was seventh in the 500 free (5:51.01), seventh in the 200 free (2:14.38) and fifth in the 1,650 free (10:38.60); and Adam Groebner was sixth in the 1,650 free (21:08.27).

St. Thomas competes at St. Olaf next Friday (6 p.m.).
