Sat. MIAC Swimming: Linn 3rd in 200 back finals

Saturday Finals
Senior Dave Linn took third and T.J. Hardy placed ninth in the 200 backstroke Saturday night at the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center to help the Tommies take fifth place in the team race.
Gustavus (876) held off St.Olaf (820) for the men's team title. St. John's (602.5), Carleton (348), St. Thomas (270), Macalester (245), Hamline (196.5) and St. Mary's (123) rounded out the eight-team field.
Linn clocked 1:53.88 and Hardy won the consolation heat in 1:59.42.
The Toms placed fourth in the 400 free relay in 3:11.20 with Hardy, Kevin Mullee, Dave Turnbloom and Linn.
Turnbloom placed 15th in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.60); Kevin Mullee was 10th in the 200 fly (2:07.21); and UST had four placewinners in the 1,650 free -- Matt Des Marais was 12th (18:09.81); Hank Kemp was 13th (19:14.64); Paul Stahler was 14th (19:23.64); and Adam Groebner was 16th (19:52.81).
Saturday Prelims
The St. Thomas men's team had one swimmer make the finals and three make the consolation finals in the opening session Saturday at the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota's Aquatic Center. The evening session begins at 6:30 p.m.
Senior Dave Linn took second in the 200 backstroke prelims (1:55.06) to make the eight-man finals. Linn was third in friday's 100 backstroke.
Swimming in Saturday's consolation finals will be freshman
T.J. Hardy, ninth in the 200 back (2:00.47); Dave Turnbloom, 12th in the 200 breaststroke (2:22.46); and Kevin Mullee, 10th in the 200 fly (2:06.33).
Also on Saturday night, finals will be held in the 400 freestyle relay for men and women.
St. Thomas sits in fifth place out of eight teams after two days and will try to hold off sixth-place Macalester.
