Four Tommie men's tennis players received All-MIAC honors for 2009. Sophomore Andy Michels and Tyler Rice were honored in singles and doubles, and sophomore Kevin Walker and senior Phil Hanke were recognized for doubles.

Rice was 13-2 and Michels was 13-3 at second and third singles, and the pair went 12-5 at first doubles. Walker and Hanke went 11-4 at second doubles.

On their two-year careers, Rice is 24-10 in singles and 26-8 in doubles, and Michels is 23-10 in singles and 24-13 in doubles.

In a season when two of its top players missed much of the season with injuries, UST won nine of its last 12 matches. Its 13-8 record included four 5-4 defeats and three losses to NCAA qualifiers Gustavus and Whitman. UST also scored a 7-2 victory over NCAA qualifier Luther (36-5).

The sixth-seeded Tommies had their season end May 1 with a 9-0 loss to No. 10-ranked Gustavus in a semifinal match at the MIAC tournament in St. Peter. UST played without Rice, who was injured. One day earlier, UST surprised third-seed Bethel, 5-4, in a quarterfinal match. The Tommies avenged a 5-4 loss to the Royals from March.
