Men's Tennis tops Cobbers, loses to SJU

The St. Thomas men's tennis team split a pair of 5-4 matches over the weekend. The Toms fell 5-4 at St. John's Friday but won 5-4 Saturday at Concordia-Moorhead.

The Toms are now 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the MIAC. They close their regular season Tuesday at Hamline, then will compete as the No. 4 seed in the April 23-24 MIAC Championships in St. Peter.

The Toms lost third-set tie-breakers at first and fourth singles in the loss at St. John's. At Concordia, they played without No. 2 singles player Tut Fuller, who was taking a graduate-school exam. Mike Aschenbeck played his first singles match and won at No. 6 singles. The Toms swept the doubles matches, including a 9-8 win at first doubles by Brian and John Thomas. John Thomas led in his singles match before defaulting with an injury.
