Men's Tennis plays well at fall ITA event

St. Thomas played well in the ITA Fall tournament last weekend which was dominated by the host Gusties.

UST's Brian Thomas (Winona Cotter) and Blair Madsen (St. Paul/Henry Sibley HS) both reached the fourth round in singles. Madsen gave eventual champ Ben Lundell of GAC his toughest match before losing 6-3,7-5. Madsen defeated Carleton No. 1 player Pat Maloney in the third round.

In doubles, Tom Loper (Eden Prairie) and Ben Herding defeated Carleton's No. 1 team 8-4 in the second round. Brian Thomas (Winona/Cotter HS) and Tut Fuller (Dubuque, Iowa/Senior HS) beat the No. 4-seeded team from Carthage then lost to Gustavus' top-seeded team in the semifinals 8-5. Adam Berland (Decorah, Iowa) and Grant Campbell (Dubuque, Iowa) lost also to the No. 1 seed 8-4 in the third round after defeating the No. 1 team from Concordia 8-3.

The Tommies will start their 2005 schedule in February.
