Tennis assistant Chris Rovn gets award at Luther

St. Thomas assistant tennis coach Chris Rovn is among seven being inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame at Homecoming festivities Oct. 8.
From 1993-1995, Rovn was the dominating player in the Iowa Conference, capturing three #1 singles titles and two #1 doubles championships. Twice he was named league Most Valuable Player, leading the Norse to three straight IIAC championships. As a freshman, he teamed with Luther All-American Sujay Lama, and this duo won the ITA Rolex Regional Championship, qualifying for the national tournament. During his career he was ranked as high as 33rd in the country in singles play and sixth in the nation in doubles.
Since graduating from Luther, he has continued to used his skills on the tennis court and is ranked 21st in the United States Tennis Association Northern Section in doubles. He has been employed as a physical education and health instructor for the Bloomington school district and currently holds that same title at Nova Classical Academy in St. Paul. He has also been the assistant tennis coach at St. Thomas the last five years and is pursuing a Master's degree here. While employed as the head girls tennis coach at Eastview High, he was named the Lake Conference Coach of the Year.
Chris and his wife Jennifer (Bantes) attend Good Samaritan United Methodist Churh and reside in Minneapolis. A 1991 graduate of Robinsdale Armstrong High, Rovn will be inducted into the Luther hall by former men's tennis coach Rich Leake.
