The St. Thomas men's tennis team is the fourth-seed in the six-team MIAC Tournament which starts a two-day run Friday in St. Peter. The Tommies are scheduled to play No. 5-seed St. John's at noon. That winner will advance to Saturday's 9 a.m. semifinal round, most likely against top-seed Gustavus.
The Tommie women's tennis team also competes this weekend in the MIAC tournament in St. Peter. UST is the No. 2 seed and has a bye on Friday. The Toms will face the best seed to win on Friday, most likely No. 3-seed Macalester.
The Tommie men are 10-6 overall and finished fourth of 10 teams in the MIAC regular-season. They topped St. John's 7-2 in a dual eight weeks ago. Freshman Arya Vayghan is 15-1 at first singles and 13-2 at first doubles with Tyler Rice.
The UST women are 16-3, with an 8-1 loss to Gustavus and 5-4 non-conference losses to Olivet Nazarene and Luther. Dana Vilar is 15-1 at No. 3 singles. Brittany Bachman is 11-5 in singles and with Alexandra Franks is 15-2 in doubles. Madeline Gail is 12-1 in singles and 9-0 in doubles.
