Brian Sames hit an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the 800 meters to lead the Tommies at Sunday's non-team scored UST Invitational Track & Field Meet held at St. Olaf's track in Northfield.
Sames clocked 1:53.07 to better the 1:53.20 standard and take second place.
St. Thomas had six firsts in the meet against St. Olaf, Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud State.
James Ewer won the 400 dash (49.34) and took second in the 200 (21.77) and the long jump (22-4 1-2).
P.J. Theisen won the 400 hurdles (54.09), was third in the long jump (22-0 1-4) and was third in the 110 hurdles (15.48).
Derek Marks won the discus (164-9), took fifth in the hammer (149-11) and was seventh in the shot put (44-0). Mark O'Connell won the hammer (173-4) and took fourth in thr shot put (46-7 1-2).
Kyle Brandon (3:59.36) and Neil Atzinger (4:00.16) went 1-2 in the 1,500 meters. Darnell Clark won the triple jump (44-4).
Matt Girswold took second in the 400 hurdles (55.70) and fourth in the 110 hurdles (15.80).
Seconds were scored by Jason Mansur in the 5,000 (15:59.87) and Mike Connell in the steeplechase (9:53.44).
Thirds were scored by Rorak Hooten in the steeplechase (9:55.53); Joe Rohlfing in the high jump (5-10); and Pat Jager in the 200 (22.12) and 400 (50.06). Fourths were scored by Greg Dowe in the 800 (1:56.54); and Evan Schwartz in the 1,500 (4:03.48). Fifths were scored by Tim Barnaby in the 5,000 (16:17.64); Chris Victor in the pole vault (14-0); Ryan Maciej in the javelin (129-2); and Cameron Roemhildt in the triple jump (41-10 3-4).
St. Thomas will compete Friday and Saturday in the MIAC Championships at Hamline.
