July 23, 2013

The Tommie men's track and field team has five 2013 All-Academic honorees by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA).

The elite award goes to indoor or outdoor track athletes who compete at nationals -- or finish on the top-35 individual or top-25 relay lists -- in Division III, plus maintain a 3.30 or higher cumulative grade-point average.

St. Thomas' honorees -- jumps All-America Eyo Ekpo (SR-Andover); mulit-event competitor Gavin Yseth (SR-St. Francis); 400-meter runners Doug Thoreson (SO-Verona, Wis.) and Brian Jarvey (FR-Wayzata); and throws athlete Bryan Thell (JR-Mahtomedi).

In all, 232 Division III men were awarded. St. Thomas had five of the MIAC's nine honorees.

The Toms were also among seven MIAC teams and 80 in all of Division III to receive the All-Academic honor with a team gpa of 3.10 or better.
