Bryan Thell popped a season-best shot put and Eyo Ekpo won the high jump and long jump to lead the Tommie men’s track and field team at Friday’s Ole Qualifier in Northfield.
It was the Tommies’ last competition until next week’s MIAC Championships in Northfield.
Ekpo cleared 6-8 in the high jump and 21-11 1-4 in the long jump.
Thell won the shot put in a season-best 51-3 1-2, which moves him into first on the MIAC season list.
Doug Thoresen won the 800 (1:55.11), the MIAC’s second best time of 2013.
Dan Kremer and Doug Mueller placed 1-2 in a photo finish in the 600 (1:22.96).
Other top performances came from Cole Boughner (7.15 prelims) and Maxwell Gardiner (second, 7.22) in the 60 dash; Gardiner was second in the triple jump (40-9 1-2); Boughner (third, 51.34) and Christian Roemhildt (fourth, 51.59) ran well in the 400 dash; Jeff Rada placed third in the 200 (23.36); Alex Schroeder was third in the 800 (1:56.61); Joe Wistrcill (8.74) and Gavin Yseth (8.84) placed 4-5 in the 60 hurdles; Nicholas Braunig (21-2) and Charlie Pechous (21-0) placed 3-4 in the long jump; Matt Schauer (44-11 1-2) and Aba Omot (44-11) went 3-4 in the shot put; and Thell (55-3) and Omot (53-0) went 2-3 in the weight throw.
