The St. Thomas men’s track and field team won eight of 18 events and had three NCAA provisional qualifying times at the 36th-annual Meet of Saints Thursday evening at O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
No team scores were kept as the Tommies competed against rival St. John's and St. Olaf, but St. Thomas had eight firsts, 13 seconds and seven thirds in a strong performance.
Freshman Mike Hutton won the 800 meters in 1:52.53 -- the fifth best time thus far in Division III, an NCAA provisional time and the 11th fastest time in UST history. Teammate Brian Sames was right behind in second place in 1:53.09.
Senior Pat Jager was first in the 200 meters in 21.73, an NCAA provisional time and the sixth fastest time in UST history. Jager also took second in the 100 meters (11.00).
UST also won the 4x100 relay in a provisional time of 41.71.
Other winners for UST were Sam Moen in the 100 meters (10.97); Seth Rosvold in the 1500 (4:06.50); Matt Griswold in the 400 hurdles (55.51); Brian Pink the high jump (6-2); and Andrew Brueggen in the hammer (164-11).
Seconds were scored by Phil Bastron in the 200 (22.25); James Ewer in the 400 (50.46); Crawford Hubbell (4:09.32); Mike Connell in the 5,000 (15:17.70); Cameron Roemhildt in the 110 hurdles (16.02) and triple jump (42-10 1-4); Joe Rohlfing in the 400 hurdles (55.54); Joe Rohlfing in the high jump (6-0); Chris Victor in the pole vault (14-9); Zack Bork in the long jump (21-4 3-4); Devin Dirth in the shot put (44-3 1-2); and A.C. Clothier in the javelin (140-7).
Thirds were scored by Moen in the long jump (21-2); Luke Sames in the 400 (51.15; Rohlfing in the 110 hurdles (17.20); Jonah Shermer in the high jump (6-0); Ryan Chapman in the 400 hurdles (58.28); Devin Dirth in the shot put (44-3 1-2); and Andrew Brueggen in the discus (132-5).
UST is scheduled to host a Twilight meet April 17.
