UST's Greg Kaiser is 2000 Academic All-American
June 12, 2000
St. Thomas gained its second GTE-CoSIDA Academic All-American for 1999-2000 as Greg Kaiser (SR-Mora) was among 46 individuals chosen nationally in the college division for the spring at-large sports of golf, tennis, track and field and lacrosse. The team is comprised of student-athletes from Division II and III and NAIA institutions.
Kaiser, who graduated in May with a 3.86 gpa in Business, was among 16 student-athletes voted to the second team. He was a second-team GTE Academic All-American in football in 1997. Kaiser recently won an NCAA Division III Postgraduate Scholarship. He was a three-year starter at quarterback and an All-American and two-time conference champion in the javelin.
In April, Steve Aronson (SR-Minnetonka) was named second-team GTE Academic All-American in fall-winter at-large sports for hockey. Aropnson was Division III national Player of the Year and has a 3.38 gpa in Business.
Three other Minnesotans -- all senior track and field athletes -- joined Kaiser on the spring at-large team: Concordia-Moorhead's Micah Benson of Moorhead (3.86 Biology) and UW-Stevens Point's Dan Schwamberger of North Mankato (3.91 Forest Management) were among 15 athletes voted to the first team, and Minnesota-Duluth's Dan Schroyer of Grand Rapids (3.81 Finance) was among 15 voted to the third team.
