10 Tommies ready for NCAA Track and Field championships

The St. Thomas men's and women's track and field teams will send 10 athletes to Decatur, Ill., for the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at Millikin University May 24-26. Five men will compete in three individual events and two relays, and five women will compete in six individual events.

Seniors Jeremy Heckman and Kelly Faris will each compete in two individual events. Heckman is entered in the 200 and 400 meters with seedings of 10th and ninth, respectively. Faris will run the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters. She had NCAA qualifying times in three events but chose to withdraw from the 10,000 meters.

Heckman will also run on the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. Sophomore Justin Hall, freshman Tom Hart and sophomore Andrew Hilliard will join Heckman on the 4x100 meter relay. The 4x400 relay is comprised of Hall, sophomore Mark Bates, Heckman and Hilliard. Hilliard will also compete in the 400- meter hurdles.

Besides Faris, the Tommie women will send three seniors and one sophomore to the NCAA championships. Soph Tish Dusich, the lone underclassman, will run the 800 meters. Kara Hedin qualified in the triple jump, Katie Arnes will compete in the high jump, and Katie Bestul will run the 100-meter hurdles.
