Men's Indoor Track runs well in opener at U of M

St. Thomas opened its 2003 Men's Track & Field Indoor season Saturday at the non-scored Northwest Open at the University of Minnesota.
The Toms had eight top-six finishes. In the 400 meters, Andrew Hilliard (50.70) and Jason Schwietz (51.02) finished 2-3; in the 60 meters, Roman Cress (6.94), Carson Glad (7.12) and Hilliard (7.20) placed 3-6-8; Glad was fourth in the 200 (23.11); Matt McLaughlin was sixth in the weight throw (45-5); Jason Peterson was sixth in the long jump (20-10); Jason Larson was 14th in the pole vault (12-6); and the Toms' distance-medley team was second (10:57.98).
In the Developmental races, UST had two top-five finishes -- Chris Mattke was second in the 400 (51.80), and Tom Hart was fourth in the 200 (23.41).
