Cress sharp for Men's Track

Sprinter Roman Cress won the 200 meters in a season-best 22.00 and was second in the 55 dash in 6.44 to lead the Tommie men's indoor track and field team in Saturday's non-team scored St. Olaf Qualifier meet in Northfield.

Matt McLaughlin was fifth in the weight throw with a throw of 49-9 1-4, the second-best distance in the conference in 2003. In the triple jump, Andrew Kisielius was fourth in 45-3 1-2, just 1-4 inch off the MIAC season best. In the pole vault, Jason Larson was sixth in a season-best height of 13-7 1-4.

The Tommies won the 4x400 relay in 3:21.44 and took third in the distance-medley relay in 10:24.45.

Joe Thomas tied for first in the high jump in 6-5 1-2 and took sixth in the long jump (20-4 1-2). Shawn Lohman was second in the 600-yard run in 1:15.22.

Thirds were scored by Kevin Wright in the 1,500 (4:09.24) and Jason Overson in the 1,000 (2:36.87). Fourths were scored by Jason Peterson in the long jump (21-1 1-4), Carson Glad in the 55 (6.54); Jason Schweitz in the 600 (1:15.78); and Tom Hart in the 200 (22.73). Fifths were scored by Hart in the 55 (6.61), Brian Hauge in the 800 (1:59.40); and Bryan Limmer in the 1,000 (2:40.83). Sixths were scored by Andrew Hilliard in the 55 (6.66); Ben Sanders in the 1000 (2:41.46); and John Schwerkoske in the 3,000 (9:11.34).

The Tommies will return to St. Olaf next Friday and Saturday in the MIAC Championships. St. Thomas is favored to captured the team championship for the 19th time in the 19-year history of the event.
