Men's Track takes first at Meet of the Saints

The St. Thomas men's track and field team won 10 events and outscored St. John's and St. Olaf Thursday to win the 31st-annual Meet of the Saints in O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
Carson Glad swept the 200 (21.92) and 400 (49.08) dashes and ran on the winning 4x400 relay (3:20.78). Chris Mattke won the 400 hurdles (55.94); Bryce Beckman won the 800 (1:58.71); Sean Brenckman won the 5,000 (15:19.07); Joe Thomas won the high jump (6-5 1/2); Matt McLaughlin won the hammer (159-7); Dave Diercks won the javelin (171-5); and Mike Draxton won the long jump (20-10 1/2) and was second in the high jump (6-1 1/2).
Seconds were scored by Tom Hart in the 100 meters (11.29); Jason Schwietz in the 400 (50.25); Travis Simmons in the 110 hurdles (16.17); the 4x100 relay team (43.26); Matt Schroeder in the pole vault (13-7 1/2); P.J. Theisen in the long jump (20-9); Ben Garbe in the triple jump (45-0); and Peter Rosholt in the hammer (151-5).
Thirds were scored by Jeremy Krentz in the 100 (11.33); Bill Kretsch in the 5,000 (15:29.18); Travis Birklid in the 110 hurdles (16.36); Nick Schleder in the 400 hurdles (56.79); Mattke in the long jump (20-7); and McLaughlin in the shot put (43-0) and discus (138-6).
Former football All-American and NFL tight end Ryan Collins made his UST track and field debut in the javelin and placed fourth in 143-6.
