Six top-2 finishes for Men's Track at Macalester

The St. Thomas men's track and field team had six top-two finishes Wednesday night at the non-team scored Macalester Twilight meet.

Cory Fusco won the 800 meters (1:54.05), Bryce Beckman won the 400 (49.98) and UST captured the 4x100 relay (42.64). Seconds were scored by Dave Diercks in the javelin (161-4); Matt McLaughlin in the hammer (161-6); and Chris Mattke in the 400 hurdles (55.74).

Other top-eight finishers for the Tommies were Tom Hart (11.32), Jeremy Krentz (11.43), Cassidy Glad (11.49) and Steve Groth (11.52), who took 3-4-7-8 in the 100; Shaun Sharpe (23.07) and Groth (23.12), 6-7 in the 200; J.J. Kirby, sixth in the 400 (51.26); Brian Hauge, fifth in the 800 (1:58.82); Hart (16.38), Jason Larson (16.76) and Travis Birklid (17.12), 6-7-8 in the 110 hurdles; Nick Schleder (56.30), Scott Busacker (58.52) and Jason Simmons (59.28), 4-7-8 in the 400 hurdles; Jerrod Gray, fourth in the high jump (6-0); Matt Schroeder, third in the pole vault (14-9 1-4); P.J. Theisen (21-0 1-4), Mattke (20-0 1-2) and Mike Draxton (20-0), 3-6-7 in ther long jump; Ben Garbe (44-6 1-4) and Theisen (43-6), 3-6 in the triple jump; Gabe Skelly (41-9) and McLaughlin (41-4 1-2), 6-7 in the shot put; and Ryan Collins, eighth in the javelin (149-9).

The Toms have five athletes at the Friday-Saturday Drake Relays in Des Moines -- Joe Thomas in the high jump and the 4x400 relay team of Carson and Cassidy Glad, P.J. Theisen and Jason Schwietz. The rest of the Toms will copmpete at Saturday's St. John's Invitational.
