Tommie sophomore Kristal Grigsby was selected MIAC Women's Most Outstanding Field Athlete for her performances at the May 7-8 outdoor championship meet May 7-8. Grigsby broke the Tommie outdoor school record for the high jump and tied a meet record with a winning height of 5-8. She also won the triple jump, took second in the long jump and placed third in the 100 and 200 dashes as she led the Tommies to a close runner-up finish, five points shy of champion Concordia.
Grigsby is ranked among the national leaders in all three jump events.
Concordia's Angie Pfeiffer was named Most Valuable Track Athlete. She was a triple champion with wins in the 200, 400, and 1600m relay. Pfeiffer has qualified for NCAA nationals in the 100, 200, 400 meter dashes, and in the 1600m relay.
The award for MIAC Men's Most Outstanding Performance went to Carson Glad of St. Thomas for his meet-record performance in the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.15. That broke a 17-year-old Tommie school record and is the third fastest time this year in Division III. Glad was a double champion in the 200 and 400m dashes, and has qualified for the NCAA's in 100, 200, 400, and 1600m relay. Glad now has 16 career MIAC titles in relays and individual races and has helped St. Thomas sweep all six indoor and outdoor team titles in his era. St. Thomas outscored runner-up St. John's by more than 30 points and had 34 different athletes score points.
The Tommies will compete in Last Chance Qualifyiung meets May 15 (at St. Olaf) and May 21 (at UW-LaCrosse) before the May 27-29 NCAA meet in Decatur, Ill.
