UST track teams busy at last-chance meets

St. Thomas will have nearly 30 track and field athletes competing at Saturday's St. Olaf Last Chance Invitational. There's one other qualifying meet (Friday May 21 at UW-LaCrosse) prior to the May 27-29 NCAA Championships in Decatur, Ill.
For the Tommie women, junior Brigid Power is competing Friday night in the 1,500 meters at Georgia Tech as she tries to improve her NCAA provisional qualifying time.
The Tommie women also will compete Saturday at St. Olaf with Kristal Grigsby in the triple jump, Andretta Colley in the long jump, Karolien Bastiaens in the pole vault and the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, both with Christina Chapman, Grigsby, Molly Bauman and Alicia Wolff.
The Tommie men's entrants Saturday are Travis Birklid and Jason Simmons in the 110 hurdles; Cassidy Glad, Jason Schweitz and Chris Mattke in the 400 meters; P.J. Theisen, Nick Schleder, Scott Busacker and Birklid in the 400 hurdles; Bryce Beckman and Cory Fusco in the 800; Brian Hauge in the 1,500; Will Hawthorne in the 5,000'; the 4x100 relay team; Ben Garbe and Michael Madison in the triple jump; Joe Thomas in the high jump; Matt Schroeder and Jason Larson in the pole vault; Peter Rosholt and Matt McLaughlin in the hammer; and Dave Dierks in the javelin.
