Glad, Theisen sharp in Men's Track opener

St. Thomas opened its 2005 men's indoor track and field season Saturday in the non-team scored Northwest Open at the University of Minnesota.

The Tommies had 11 top-12 finishes in a season-opening competition that included Minnesota Gopher, Division II and NAIA athletes.

Senior Carson Glad placed second in the 200 meters (22.45). In the 400, P.J. Theisen (50.89) and Jason Schwietz (51.11) placed 2-3. Cory Fusco took third in the 800 (1:58.91). In the pole vault, Matt Schroeder was fourth (14-5 1/4) and Brad Hansen was 11th (12-11 1/2). In the high jump, Joe Thomas was fifth (6-8) and Mike Draxton was ninth (6-4). Peter Rosholt was seventh in the weight throw (49-5). Michael Madison was third in the triple jump (39-10). Draxton was ninth in the long jump (18-7 3-4).

The Tommies will compete Friday at home vs. Bethel and some alumni athletes.
