Rosholt gets provisional mark to lead Men's Track

Senior Peter Rosholt took second in the weight throw in an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 55-7 1-2 to lead the Tommies at Saturday's non-team scored St. Olaf Qualifier meet in Northfield.

The Toms held out some of their top performers as they focus on the March 3-4 MIAC Championships at Carleton.

Also on Satuday at the Carleton meet, St. Thomas' 4x400 relay team of freshmen James Ewer and Patrick Jager, senor J.J. Kirby, and junior P.J. Theisen improved their NCAA provisional time to 3:19.5. That ranks them first in the MIAC and eighth in NCAA Division III.

At St. Olaf, Ewer won the 55 meters as he outran a field of 38 runners, with a 6.51 clocking -- just .01 off the NCAA provisional time. Joe DeFrance (6.66), Kyle Jepson (6.74) and Justin Nwadiashi (6.75) placed 3-7-8. Ewer also placed seventh in the long jhump (20-3).

DeFrance (22.92) and Jager (22.97) finished 1-2 in the 200 meters in a field of 42.

UST also won the distance medley relay (10:20.05).

Zach Turner (8.29) and Travis Birklid (8.32) placed 3-4 in the 55 hurdles. Matt Schroeder placed fifth in the pole vault (15-2 13-4); Kirby took fourth in the 400 (51.17); Logan O'Grady placed fifth in the mile (4:27.80); Kregg Hochhalter placed sixth in the 600 (1:17.03); Brian Sames placed fourth in the 800 (1:58.78); Mike Draxton (6-2 1-4)and Brian Pink (6-0 1-4) placed 5-6 in the high jump; Derek Marks placed sixth in the weight throw (49-6 1-4); and Mark O'Connell placed sixth in the shot put (47-5 1-4).
