Baseball drops two to Blue Devils

Tommie baseball was idle on the conference schedule, and when today's play was over it had moved into a share of the MIAC lead. But not much else went right on the day.
Nick Nalbach went 6-for-8 on the day to lead UW-Stout to a 6-2, 16-4 non-conference baseball sweep of No. 10-ranked St. Thomas Saturday at Koch Diamond in St. Paul. The Blue Devils (12-7) roughed up eight UST pitchers for 22 runs on 25 hits and capitalized on six walks and six hit batters.
The Tommies hosted the game as a late switch due to standing water at the Stout home field.
UST (15-7), which stranded 17 baserunners on the day, was swept on its home diamond for the first time in eight seasons.
The Tommies' Ryan Gerber went 4-for-6 and reached base five times on the day. Anthony Winters and Ben Waltz each hit solo home runs.
St. Thomas has two other home doubleheaders scheduled this week: Sunday against St. Scholastica (1 p.m.) and Wednesday vs. St. John's (2:30 p.m.).
