Kyle Halverson posted a five-hit day, capped by his walk-off RBI double in the 12th inning, to lift St. Thomas Baseball to a 13-12 win over Briar Cliff in Sunday's non-conference game in Tucson.
The Tommies (3-1) rallied from deficits of 1-0, 10-7 and 12-11. Halverson's fourth double of the game scored Dan Bollingberg, who led off with a single.
Shaun Falbo starred in relief, getting out of a ninth-inning jam and keeping BC off the board in extra innings.
Tommie starter Dylan Brend allowed two runs through six innings before he was knocked out in the seventh inning. The Chargers broke through with eight runs.
The Toms surged back with four runs in the last of the seventh, keyed by Halverson's two-run double, to lead 11-10. A two-out, two-run single in the top of the ninth gave Briar Cliff a 12-11 lead. Avery Lehman's RBI single in the ninth inning tied the game and forced extra innings.
St. Thomas closes the weekend trip Monday with a late-morning game against Park (Ariz.).
