Women's Hockey tops Royals, moves to 2-0 in MIAC

Eryn Cooley stopped 21 of 23 shots and eight players contributed a point as host St. Thomas Women's Hockey built a 4-0 lead in en route to Saturday night's 4-2 defeat of Bethel in conference play in Mendota Heights.

Ten different players have scored goals in the first four games for St. Thomas (3-1 overall, 2-0 MIAC), which was playing its fourth game in seven days.

Senior Maddy Fiedler scored her 28th career goal in the opening frame for a 1-0 Tommie lead. Fiona Claughtery scored her first collegiate goal early in the second period for a 2-0 cushion.

Luci Bianchi and freshman Addy Hackley scored in the first 8:00 of the final frame to extend the margin to 4-0. It was also the first college tally for Hackley.

Bethel scored with 6:00 remaining on Grace Halverson's goal, and pulled within 4-2 with 3:02 to go in regulation on Julia Mcalpin's goal.

St. Thomas is scheduled for three more games next week:Tuesday night at St. Mary's; Wednesday night at home against Concordia; and Saturday afternoon at home against St. Mary's.
