Rally helps Men's Hockey forge 2-2 tie with Johnnies

Sophomore goalie Henry Baribeau stopped 33 of 35 shots and helped blank St. John's over the game's final 42:51 on the clock as host St. Thomas skated to a 2-2 overtime tie with the Johnnies in MIAC men's hockey play Friday night in Mendota Heights.
St. Thomas (2-0-1 overall, 0-0-1 MIAC) extended the program's unbeaten streak to eight games, spanning the last 377 days. The Purple closed last season on a five-game winning streak before Covid shut down the season
Trailing 2-0 into the game's final 13:00 of regulation time, the Tommies scored twice in a 3:39 span to even the score at 2-2. Justin Kelley and Kimball Johnson recorded the goals.
The game went to overtime and the teams both played their first 3-on-3 format for the 5:00 extra session. Both teams had chances, with six total shots on goal, but no game winner found the back of the net as goalies Baribeau and Mac Berglove (30 saves overall) settled for a tie in the final stats.
Tanner Dufault scored a first-period goal, and Auggie Moore connected on a power-play goal early in the second for St. John's (4-2-1, 2-0-1).
St. Thomas makes it three games in three nights as it visits St. Mary's on Saturday (7 p.m.).
