Softball splits opening DH with Oles

Senior Kierstin Anderson-Glass allowed seven hits and two runs and recorded her 57th career win in a complete-game victory Friday as St. Thomas Softball topped No. 13-ranked St. Olaf, 7-2, in game one of a non-conference doubleheader in the Dundas (Minn.) Dome.
St. Olaf scored five runs in the first inning of game two and held on for an 8-6 victory to secure a split of the doubleheader.
These were the first games of 2021 for both teams.
St. Olaf senior pitching ace Julie Graf, who came into today with 59 career wins, took the game-one loss but came back to get the day's final two outs and get the save in game two with the tying run at the plate.
Sam Birling's two-run homer helped the Toms build a 7-1 lead in the opener. Freshman Abbie Witt went 2-for-2 two with a walk, and the Toms took advantage of nine walks to go with six hits.
St. Thomas is scheduled to play its home opener Saturday March 20 with a pair of games against UW-Stout. The Toms and Oles are scheduled to pla a conference doubleheader on the St. Thomas diamond on April 7.
