Christina Crawford allowed just one run in the 2-1 victory over Drake
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Strong pitching and defense headlined another fantastic effort by Tommie Softball (14-7 overall) to extend its program-best win streak to nine games with a 2-1 victory over Drake (6-13) on Sunday at Urban Youth Academy.
Recap
The Tommies batted first as the acting away team for the neutral site match up with the Bulldogs. After surrendering two outs in the first inning, Laken Lienhard and Ella Cook rifled off back-to-back two-out singles. Kaitlyn Raymond followed with an RBI single down the left field line to score Lienhard and put the Tommies out in front.
Christina Crawford worked a 1-2-3 inning with three popouts in the bottom of the first and worked around a pair of singles in the second by striking out the final two hitters.
Cassidy Carby led off the top of the third with an infield single and moved up to second after Lienhard walked. Raymond singled back to the pitcher to load the bases and Abbi Stierlen put the ball in play, reached on an error, and scored Carby to double the lead. That's all the Toms would get for the game.
Working within tight margins, Crawford pitched tremendously. She tossed five scoreless before getting into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. She allowed a one-out double. That runner advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a two-out single through the left side of the infield. After she allowed a second double to put runners on second and third, the senior induced an infield pop out to end the inning.
Crawford worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to cap off her complete game. She allowed just one run on six hits, one walk, and two strike outs.
Up Next
The Tommies' win streak will be tested with a mid-week doubleheader against the Big Ten's Iowa Hawkeyes on Wedneday, March 12th at 3 & 5 p.m. at Bob Pearl Field.
