Welcome to Tommies Today, a look at St. Thomas varsity sports for Tuesday Nov. 3. It's a busy stretch with at least one UST sports team competing in eight of nine days from Oct. 30-Nov. 7.
Second-seed St. Thomas plays host to MIAC playoff action today in women’s soccer against third-seed Macalester. Game time is 2 p.m. at UST's South Field. Admission will be charged and tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students. If you can’t make the games, you can follow either live stats or a live blog via computer at www.tommiesports.com .
St. Thomas is the lone institution to advance all three teams to this week's MIAC fall playoffs. The Tommie men’s soccer teams plays Wednesday at top-seed Carleton (2 p.m.). The UST volleyball team has a bye in tonight's first round and is home Thursday (at Concordia's Gangelhoff Center) for a 7:30 p.m. semifinal match.

UST (13-4-1 overall) won 1-0 Saturday at St. Mary's to end a two-game losing streak. Macalester (12-4-2) won 1-0 in overtime at St. Thomas 10 days ago despite getting outshot 19-6.
The Scots are in the playoffs for the seventh time in the seven-year history of the format. They have won three games in a row this season, all by shutouts.
St. Thomas is 17-2-3 in conference play over the last two seasons with both losses by one goal.
The Tommies are 24-2 when senior Erin Sprangers has scored a goal in her career. Sprangers now has 71 points in 70 games (30 goals, 11 assists).
