St. Thomas junior catcher Emily Gregory hit three home runs on the day to lead the No. 20-ranked Tommies (17-5 overall, 4-0 MIAC) to Thursday's sweep of Bethel in conference softball play at UST's South Field. The Toms won 14-2 (five innings) and 9-5.
UST, which rallied from a 4-0 first-inning deficit in game two, extended its home-field win streak to 33 games. It moved into a share of the early MIAC lead at 4-0 with St. Mary's.
Gregory has homered in all four conference games in a two-day span. She has slugged six on the season and 24 home runs in 110 games on her career. Her three-run homer in the second inning erased a 4-2 Bethel lead. She closed the day 4-for-7 with a walk.
Kimmy Hassel homered in game one and went 5-for-6 with two walks and five runs scored on the day. Jenna Hoffman had a homer and double in game two and went 3-for-7 with a walk on the day. Mackenzie Wergin reached base in all seven at-bats in the twinbill (three singles, two walks, twice via errors).
Kendra Bowe earned the win in the opener as she allowed just one earned run. In game two, freshman Katie Jo Delisle worked five innings in relief and allowed one run for the pitching win.
St. Thomas plays at home again Saturday against St. Olaf (1 p.m. doubleheader).
