L, 1-2
at Central (W), May 12, 2013

Tommie softball split two Sunday games at the NCAA Regional tourney and had its 2013 season end with a 41-7 record.

The host Central Dutch took a 2-1 win over the No. 8-ranked Tommies to win the regional with a 4-0 record. Central, which allowed just three runs in four regional games, moves on to the eight-team national tournament which starts Friday in Eau Claire, Wis.

UST freshman Katie Jo Delisle pitched well in her first career postseason start. Delisle stranded 10 Central runners and allowed nine hits and two runs  in the complete-game loss. Central scored one run in the first inning and added a key insurance run with two outs in the seventh when a runner scored from second on an infield double-play try.

UST freshman Brenna Walek hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning but UST couldn’t get the tying runner on base after that.

McKenzie Wergin had two of UST's five hits. The Toms hit into one double play, had a runner out trying to steal second, and left five on base.

Senior 2B Kimmy Hassel and junior catcher Emily Gregory were named to the all-tournament team.

The Tommies, who finished 8-2 in postseason play, will return seven of nine position starters and all of their pitchers. Among their five seniors is Hassel, who finished with 187 career hits including 145 over her final two seasons.
