Freshman Shaun Falbo threw four scoreless innings of relief and Hunter Hart had a go-ahead single in the 11th inning as St. Thomas scored a 3-2 comeback extra-inning win over Macalester in a Friday afternoon elimination game at the NCAA regional tournament in Whitewater, Wis.
The Tommies (27-17) will play top-seed UW-Whitewater in Saturday's first game. Whitewater lost 5-2 to UW-La Crosse.
Hart made amends for a baserunning error in the nnth inning when he was picked off first for the the second out and UST trailing 2-1. Freshman Josh Thorp was down to his last strike but smacked a game-tying single to score Jake Smith.
Falbo (3-0) has yet to allow a run in his 10 appearances this season. He retired the first 11 batters he faced from the eighth through the 11th innings. With two outs he allowed a walk and a single to put the tying tun at second, but got a game-ending ground out.
Smith scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 11th with a single. He was bunted to second and scored on Hart's single.
Drew Molin pitched the first six innings and allowed just one run.
Macalester had 10 hits and left 11 runners on base.
