Men's Basketball falls in OT to ranked Pioneers

Senior forward Ryan Boll scored a career-high 39 points and added 11 rebounds in a game-best 43 minutes of play, but St. Thomas lost a tough 85-83 overtime road decision Saturday night at No. 13-ranked Marietta (Ohio).

The Pioneers (2-0) converted a three-point play with :09 left to erase a one-point deficit.

UST (1-1) played the weekend tournament without four players expected to start or be in its top eight rotation. Against the ranked Pioneers, they used 10 players, including five freshmen and two sophomores.

Boll missed both a game-winning shot at the end of regulation and a game-tying shot at the end of the overtime.

Marietta, a 26-win team last season, won 102-71 Friday night over Hope (Mich.), a 23-win team last season.

Junior G.T. Johnson scored a career-high 14 points for St. Thomas, which shot 58 percent from the field in the second half. Both teams had only eight turnovers.
