The St. Thomas men's basketball season ended Wednesday night with a 67-55 loss at Augsburg in the opening round of the MIAC playoffs in Minneapolis.
The Tommies (14-12) never led in the game and trailed by as many as 13 points midway through the second half. They rallied behind nine straight points from junior guard Michael Hannon to trail 50-46 with 7:20 left, but Augsburg scored seven of the next eight points and cruised to the win.
Hannon led St. Thomas with 15 points, followed by Steffan Musoke's 11 (all in the first half) and G.T. Johnson's 10. Senior forward Ryan Boll finished his career with seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
Augsburg (19-7) had four players score in double figures, led by Collin Olmscheid's 17. He was the MIAC's regular-season scoring leader with a 20-point average per game.
St. Thomas shot only 32 percent for the game to Augsburg's 45 percent, and had half as many points (18 to 36) in the paint. UST made 10 treys but was hurt by 14 turnovers.
The Auggies swept the season's series between the two teams, winning regular-season games 62-52 and 79-66. Augsburg plays in Friday's playoff semifinals at top-seed St. John's.
