14 Toms get All-MIAC in tennis, golf

All-MIAC honors have been announced in tennis and golf for 2016-17.

 

Men's Tennis

MIAC playoff runner-up St. Thomas had five players among 19 honored on the All-MIAC men's tennis team.

Seniors Luke Elifson, Burke Anderson, Tom Runde and Scott Wall were joined by junior teammate Martin Beck.

The Toms finished 14-4, with 5-1 and 7-2 losses to league champion Gudtavus. They took third in the MIAC regular-season race and second in the MIAC playoffs. They ended a 19-match losing streak to Carleton with a 5-4 road playoff win and advanced to the playoff finals for the first time since 2002.

Elifson played No. 1 and went 11-2 in singles and 14-3 in doubles.

Beck was 14-4 at first doubles and 11-4 in singles.

Anderson went 10-5 in singles and 13-4 in doubles.

Runde went 10-6 in singles and 10-2 in doubles.

Wall went 9-7 in singles and 10-7 in doubles.

Women's Tennis

Third-place St. Thomas had five players honored on the All-MIAC women's tennis team.

Senior Paige Becher, junors Caitlin Bakke and Jenna Zimmerman, and freshmen twins Taylor and Paige McLeod.

The Toms finished 15-3, including two losses to league playoff champion Gustavus. They took third in the MIAC regular-season race.

Zimmerman played No. 1 and went 12-4 in singles and 13-4 in doubles.

Bakke went 10-6 in singles and 12-4 in doubles.

Becher went 14-3 in singles and 11-2 in doubles.

Taylor McLeod went 14-4 in singles and 16-2 in doubles.

Paige McLeod went 6-2 in singles and 16-2 in doubles.

Women's Golf

Senior Rachel Morris and junior Emily Thul were among 15 players named to the All-MIAC team in women's golf for 2016-17.

Morris took third out of 50 players last fall in the conference meet to lead the Tommies to fourth place. She ranked seventh in the conference in fall and spring scoring average at 79.17 for 18 rounds.

Thul tied for 12th at conference. She ranked ninth in the conference in fall and spring scoring average at 79.33 for 18 rounds.

Men's Golf

Juniors Riley Gannon and Pete Sienko were among 15 players named to the All-MIAC team in men's golf for 2016-17.

Gannon tied for eighth out of 50 players last fall in the conference meet to lead the Tommies to fourth place. He ranked 13th in the conference in fall and spring scoring average at 75.77 for 21 rounds.

Sienko ranked 10th in the conference in fall and spring scoring average at 75.6 for 19 rounds.
