Volleyball holds off Oles, on to playoff finals

Junior Julia Spacek and seniors Whitney Lloyd and Brooke Reichart combined for 31 kills and 16 blocks to lead No. 17-ranked Tommie Volleyball to Thursday night's 3-1 win over St. Olaf in MIAC semifinal-round playoff action at Schoenecker Arena. Top-seeded St. Thomas won 25-18, 25-21, 26-28, 25-23.

The Tommies (25-5) improved to 6-0 at home and pushed their season win streak to six. They will play host to the playoff title match Saturday at 7 p.m, against No. 2-seed St. Ben's, a 3-2 home winner over Augsburg.

Madie Kroehler had 13 kills, 19 digs and two aces, Katharine Mallak had 23 assists and 15 digs, and Ellie Etzell had eight kills for St. Thomas.

Fourth-seed St. Olaf (22-11) rallied from 24-21 down in the third set to win 28-26. Trailing 24-18 in the fourth set, the Oles scored five points in a row before Krohler's kill ended the match for the Tommies.
