Team Outlook

St. Thomas womenÍs golf has established itself as one of the top 20 programs in NCAA Division III.

The Tommies, who placed ninth in both the 2002 and 2005 national meets, have won four consecutive MIAC championships. In the last six conference meets, the Tommies have had 18 all-conference golfers and won medalist honors three times.

Last season, senior Katie Glorvigen was chosen conference Player of the Year and also was voted a CoSIDA Academic All-American, while freshman Holly Noble was voted MIAC Rookie of the Year.

Sara Evens took over as head coach in spring 2005. Evens has been a pro at St. Paul's Town & Country golf club the last six years and played college golf for the Minnesota Gophers (1989-93). Now in her second college coaching post, Evens has continued the progress made by Cathy Lombritto, who guided the program the previous eight seasons. Lombritto was named MIAC Coach of the Year after she guided the Tommies to conference championships in 2001, 2002 and 2003. In four spring meets under Evens, the Toms won the Winona State and Carleton tournaments; took second of 13 at the state tournament; and took ninth at Division III nationals.

The team competes in both the fall and spring seasons. Approximately 20 athletes try out each year for about 12 spots on the varsity and junior varsity teams. The Tommies play and practice at many challenging courses in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota.
