The Tommie volleyball team is ranked seventh in the first Division III regular-season poll of 2011. The latest rankings were released Tuesday by the American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA).
St. Thomas has been ranked in the top 25 for 72 of the last 73 consecutive polls.
Two other conference teams are included in the top 25 poll -- Concordia-Moorhead is 15th, and St. Olaf is ranked 21st.
The Tommies, which were 10th in the preseason rankings, went 4-0 at last weekend's Sugar Loaf Invite in Winona, with four-game wins over No. 25 St. Scholastica and Nebraska Wesleyan, and three-game wins over Loras and UW-LaCrosse.
Coach Thanh Pham's team picked up where last year's team left off. The 2010 Toms won 22 of their last 24 regular-season matches and later claimed the NCAA region playoff championship. That team tied for fifth in the nation, and shared the MIAC championship en route to a 31-7 final record.
St. Thomas competes Friday and Saturday in the Augsburg Invite. UST starts its home season on Sept. 14 against Gustavus.
