Dominican "Stars" 2012 Season Notes -- Nov. 7

--Dominican University is making just its second appearance in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship.  The Stars lost to UW-Platteville (3-0) in 2010 in the First Round hosted by Carthage College

--The Stars open the 2012 single-elimination tournament on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at St. Thomas against St. Benedict (27-5).

--The Stars (24-8) are 3-4 against teams in the AVCA Top 25 this season, going 2-3 against teams in the top 10.

--The Stars received one of the 20 Pool C bids to the national tournament after falling in the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Tournament to Benedictine University.

--Dominican, along with Benedictine University, become the first two teams to represent the Northern Athletics Conference in the national tournament in the same season, with the Stars garnering the first-ever at-large bid for the conference.

--Dominican University’s Liz Yakey was named the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Defensive Player of the Year.  The Stars’ senior libero led the NAC at 4.89 digs per set.

--The Stars’ Caitlen Foote was named the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Freshman of the Year.  The Dexter, Mich., native ranks third on the Stars and 11th in the NAC with 282 kills.

--Ryan Baumgartner, in just his second season, has guided the Stars to a 52-14 overall mark, the most successful two-year stretch in program history.
