St. Thomas "Tommies" 2012 Season Notes -- Nov. 7

--No. 7-ranked St. Thomas will play host to an eight-team NCAA Regional tournament, Nov. 8-10, at Schoenecker Arena.

--After the July 2010 opening of its Anderson Athletics and Recreation Complex, St. Thomas lost its debut match on its home court but has won all 26 matches over three seasons since.

--The Tommies (34-1) won the automatic berth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and will make their eighth consecutive appearance at regionals. UST was region champion in both 2010 and 2011 and region runner-up six times, most recently in 2009.

--UST¹s 34 wins have set a school season record. Its lone loss came in five sets on the road against No. 6-ranked Emory (Ga.).

--Coach Thanh Pham's team opens play in the eight-team, single-elimination tournament on Thursday at 8 p.m. against Cornell (Iowa) (20-10).

--The Tommies are 6-0 this season against other teams coming to St. Paul, including five-set wins over Wartburg and St. Ben's; a 3-1 wins over UW-Eau Claire; and 3-0 wins over Northwestern, UW-Stevens Point and St. Ben¹s.

--St. Thomas is in the NCAA playoffs for the 14th time (18-13 all-time record), with eight trips to the region title match. Current assistant coach Dave Orren was the head coach in a span when UST qualified six years in a row from 1987-92, including regional final berths in 1990, 1991 and 1992. UST also has reached the region finals in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010.

--St. Thomas is 97-13 over the last three seasons.

--UST senior libero Kaitlain Wachter has started all 144 matches on her career and is closing in on 2,900 digs.

--UST sophomore MB Kelly Foley was selected National Freshman of the Year in 2011 and Conference Player of the Year in 2012.

--UST is the first team in conference history to win or share six consecutive championships.

--St. Thomas has been ranked in the AVCA national top 25 for 92 of the last 93 consecutive polls dating back to September 2005.

--Pham is in his 10th season as Tommie head coach with a 282-63 record, and he's led UST to eight conference titles or co-titles and eight NCAA playoff berths.

--The Tommies' 17-player postseason roster includes only two seniors.
