UST volleyball in sole possession of MIAC lead

St. Thomas took over sole possession of first place in the MIAC volleyball race with Wednesday night's three-game win over Augsburg (15-12, 15-1, 15-12) at Schoenecker Arena and St. Olaf's four-game upset loss at St. Mary's. UST has now won five matches in a row to climb to 11-8 overall. Earlier this week, the Toms broke into the eight-team NCAA Division III Central Region rankings at No. 7. In Wednesday's win, Katie Reynolds had 15 kills, hit .357, added four blocks and eight digs; Jenny Schmitt had 44 assists and 18 digs; Jill Kraus had eight kills, four blocks and 26 digs; and Rachel Myskevitz had 12 kills, two service aces, two blocks and 14 digs. Last Saturday, the Toms handed Bethel its only loss in MIAC volleyball by a 15-8, 15-6, 15-2 score. It was just the second loss for Bethel in its last 10 matches. Rachel Myskevitz had 11 kills and six service aces; Jill Kraus had 10 kills; Kirsten Johnson had nine kills and three aces; and Steph Blanda had three aces. UST also scored a three-game win over Hamline Friday night in the Pipers' gym, winning 15-11, 15-9, 15-5.
